[WISET-KWiSE SF Global Mentoring Program \u2013 June Meeting Recap]<\/b><\/p>\n

The June session of the WISET-KWiSE SF Chapter\u2019s Global Mentoring Program focused on exploring a wide range of career paths in STEM. We compared the characteristics, advantages, and challenges of careers in academia, government and public institutions, and industry. The session also included practical guidance on how to find relevant opportunities\u2014such as graduate school programs, public sector job postings, and industry roles.<\/span><\/p>\n

To offer deeper insight, four speakers representing each sector shared their personal experiences and career journeys. Their stories provided mentees with real-world perspectives on what it\u2019s like to work in each field. For mentees who are still exploring their options, the session concluded with a set of reflective questions designed to help them consider key factors in making informed career decisions.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the small group discussions that followed, participants actively engaged in conversations around graduate admissions, international job searches, and workplace culture and lifestyle across sectors. We plan to compile and share mentors\u2019 responses to frequently asked questions from these sessions for future reference.<\/span><\/p>\n

Looking ahead, the July meeting will focus on the <\/span>fundamentals of writing resumes (CVs) and cover letters<\/b>, which are essential for both academic and industry job applications. Mentees will also have the opportunity to receive feedback on their submitted documents.<\/span><\/p>\n
