The 2024 KWiSE NY/NJ Chapter Fall Conference

The 2024 Korean American Women in Science and Engineering (KWiSE) NY/NJ Chapter Fall Conference was held on Saturday, December 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., under the theme “How to Prepare for Generative Artificial Intelligence.” Dr. Sungeun Choi, the chapter president, delivered the welcome remarks, and Dr. Minsun Shin served as the moderator.

Three distinguished speakers presented on diverse topics related to generative AI:

  1. Dr. Balachandran (Queens College, CUNY): His presentation, “AI-Enhanced Exercise for Older Adults,” explored the benefits of exercise in improving physical function and quality of life for seniors. He discussed the distinction between power and strength training, advocating for lighter loads with more repetitions for older adults.
  2. Dr. Kang (Montclair State University): She examined the prevalence and traits of autism, emphasizing the need for greater awareness and acceptance of neurodiversity. Dr. Kang also discussed AI’s role in advancing diagnostic and therapeutic tools for autism.
  3. Dr. Yang: Her talk focused on “Transforming Senior Living with AI Technology.” Dr. Yang showcased innovative AI applications aimed at enhancing the quality of life for seniors, demonstrating how generative AI can revolutionize healthcare and daily living for older populations.

Each 45-minute presentation was followed by interactive Q&A sessions, fostering engaging discussions. The event concluded with a networking lunch and closing remarks. This conference offered valuable insights into the intersection of AI and societal needs, highlighting its transformative potential.
